Happy Birthday!!!!

Can you believe this was one year ago?!?!!  He was so tiny and had so much dark hair:)

This month's theme was "birthday."  Hence, all the bright colors and the birthday candles in the blog's title.  And it all was leading up to today... Mitchell's first birthday!!  Ok, get ready for a totally cliche moment:  We can't believe Mitchell is already one!!!  This last year has gone by so fast, too fast.  But it has been a great year.  We couldn't have been more blessed with such a great, sweet, happy baby boy.

Since we will be in Missouri in a couple of weeks (soooo excited!!) and will be celebrating his birthday with all our friends and family, today was pretty low key for Mitchell.  He did get a cake.  Which he did not like and cried when we tried to feed it to him.  Haha, let me explain:  Mitchell got his first year pictures today and at the end of the shoot we tried the trendy "cake smash" picture; where you put a cake in front of your baby, he smashes it, eats it, gets it all over the place, and you get pictures of it.  Well, at first he was eager to try it, but after he got his first taste he wanted nothing more to do with it.  All he did was cry from then on out.  Of course, he was also really tired; it was his nap time and he had been taking pictures for a good hour already before we tried this shot.  Haha, but Chris and I tried a bite of the cake, from the side Mitchell did not touch, and it tasted really good to us:)  It had coconut on it as well, so maybe that threw him off.  I dunno.

This was Mitchell's birthday cake.  It is, you guessed it, a Wampa cake, continuing our everlasting theme of Star Wars.  Haha, I jokingly told Chris I want next year's theme for Mitchell's life to be princesses.  Chris said, "Uh... he can rescue princesses.  Like Princess Leia."  Haha, so, I don't think we'll be dropping the Star Wars theme any time soon:)

Then, after Mitchell took a long nap, he went to the doctor and had his one year checkup.  He did really well and the doctor said he is super healthy and right on track (yeah!!).  But, Mitchell did have to get four shots.  Poor kid.  Luckily Chris was there, because I don't think I could have handled it and held Mitchell's arms down.  He only cried for a few minutes and he was happy the rest of the afternoon... where we read, played, and cuddled:)  Awe, can't believe our little baby is one!!!

Playing with a birthday balloon.  Haha, this is actually a balloon leftover from Chris's birthday in March.  But it is one of Mitchell's favorite toys and technically it was from a birthday party, so it still works.

Milestones:    He isn't walking or talking yet, but he is the fastest

army crawler around.  He recognizes a lot of words, looking at

that person or object when you say its name.  He loves clapping

and giving kisses.  And once he is laying down, he can sit back

up by himself.  Haha, well, if he wiggles around a lot first:)
