Spring Break Part 2 - Swimming

The final picture after we were all done swimming.  Haha, this was pretty much Mitchell's look the entire time we were swimming.  Of course, at this point it was also way passed his bed time so he was really tired.

Besides eating, playing video games, hanging out and watching movies, we also packed our week full of fun activities.  One night we decided to drive down to Lava Hot Springs.  It is a small town about one hour south of Idaho Falls, that is known for its natural hot springs (if the name of the town didn't already give that away for you).  The hot pools are natural stone pools which have been carved out to make sitting, and with canopies overhead in case it snows.  And they are right in between the mountains, so pretty!!  There are several pools, all different temperatures, ranging from 102 degrees to 112 degrees.  I stayed in the "coolest" pool with Mitchell; I didn't think it would be wise to place him in any hotter water.  But, our niece and nephews ventured into the hotter pools and they said the hottest pool was pretty much unbearable.  After the hot springs we headed over to a nearby indoor pool with a diving board, rock climbing wall, basketball goals, etc. so that the kids could all play around.  It was also there that Mitchell experienced his first true "swimming" lesson... holding his breath under water.  He, um... did alright:)  Overall, Mitchell didn't like his first swimming experience or hate it.  He pretty much was just even keel the whole time.  He kinda whined a little bit the first time he got in the water, but then he got used to it and just sat there, looking at everything around him.  It was a pretty neat place.

Mitchell's first time ever getting into a pool!!  Grandma was showing him the ropes.  He was a little unsure about it all.  Although, the temperature of the hot pool was also probably a bit of a shock for him (don't worry all, I checked and it was perfectly safe and ok for him to get into the "coolest" of the hot pools:)).

Just chillaxin' in the hot springs.  The water felt soooo good!!

First swimming lesson: holding your breath under water.  Grandma kept blowing in his face to get him to hold his breath (that's just a natural reaction for babies), but he was being pretty stubborn about it.  Finally, he held his breath a little bit.  Although, I don't think he was the biggest fan of "swimming under water" just yet.
