Well, since it has been 3 weeks since Meemaw's visit with us, I guess I better finish blogging about all the fun we had. Haha, I may be slow at blogging these days (keeping up with 3 little kids leaves little time for anything else), but I'm definitely not complaining about having so much to blog about. It means we're having fun and making memories, right? So, on that note, here is post number two about our visit with Meemaw: (Astoria and the last few days)
Our last day in Oregon we spent exploring Astoria. This is the view from the place we stayed. Haha, Mitchell kept smiling weird so I told him to relax, so he put his hands behind his head like he was relaxing on the couch or something. Funny kid.
Our first stop in Astoria was at The Column. It is a monument dedicated to Lewis and Clark and their journey West (Astoria, OR is the place where they finally reached the Pacific Ocean).
Meemaw with her grand-cuties in front of the column. As always, Colin is hiding in his car seat. Lol!
The hill the monument is on has incredible views of Astoria and the surrounding area. It was a typical, Pacific Northwest, overcast day, but the views were still great. This is a view of the mouth of the Columbia River (where the river meets the Pacific Ocean).
Yes, Meemaw, Mitchell, and I climbed all these spiral steps up to the top of The Column, all 125 feet of it! (Chris "graciously" volunteered to stay on the ground with Duncan and Colin. Lol!).
The only bummer after climbing all of those stairs (besides being out of breath) was when we got to the top, it started to rain! But the beautiful views made up for it. Haha, Mitchell wasn't a fan of sitting still for a picture while the rain hit his face, if you can't tell. Lol!
Our next stop in Astoria was to get some lunch. Fish-n-chips round two from the Bowpicker. Man, this place has the best fish-n-chips ever! We didn't even mind waiting in the long line, in the rain, to get some... it was so worth it!
Yay for seeing best friends! My great friend, Becky, lives near Astoria so we were lucky enough to get to hang out with her for a little bit on our trip. She met us for lunch at the Bowpicker, not that we had to twist her arm to eat the best fish-n-chips ever! Lol!
So, when Chris and I visited Astoria years ago (when I was pregnant with Mitchell), we were able to go by and see the house where they filmed the movie The Goonies. But apparently, the home owner is now super sick of people gawking at her house and so she has since posted this sign and the house is off limits. Which is really annoying. I get that it might be tiring having people constatnly taking pictures of your house, but then don't buy a famous house. Duh.
Another famous landmark in Astoria is the school where they filmed the movie Kindergarten Cop (Free Willy, Short Circuit, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and The Ring were also partly filmed in Astoria. I guess it is the place to make movies). And we were able to get pictures of it. Take that Goonie House Lady!
Next on the agenda was seeing the sea lions.
The fisherman can't stand these sea lions; they crowd the docks, are really loud all the time, and take a lot of the fish. Haha, but us tourists think they're pretty cool.
When we got back from Oregon, it was pie making time! Meemaw is passing down all her pie making secrets to Mitchell that her grandma passed to her.
Making pies is hard work. It called for some relaxation and T.V. watching afterwards:)
Meemaw didn't get to rest long. The next night she and Mitchell made some homemade biscuits. Meemaw really did spoil us this trip! And since Meemaw wore her glasses during the last baking demo, Mitchell decided he needed glasses too. Lol!
Making delicious memories with Meemaw:)
Fun and games with Meemaw! And Duncan is definitely learning to fight back at Mitchell when he tries to steal Duncan's spotlight. Lol!
