I'm doing my best to get caught up on the blog, and this will be our last post on our time in San Diego. Then I only have Duncan's first birthday, our trip to Missouri, baby announcements, Mitchell's first day of Preschool, a day trip to Seattle, etc. left to blog about. Haha, I will get caught up soon, I promise:)
One day, right in front of our condo in San Diego, some "rocks" appeared. We saw people gathering and looking at the rocks, but didn't think much of it. Until one day Chris came home from work and said, "So, I heard some guys talking at work about going to see wreckage from a 1937 shipwreck that the tide had recently uncovered." I said, "Oh, that sounds interesting. Where is it?" He answered, "Right in front of our condo. So, those aren't rocks." Haha! Oops. Apparently the tide only rarely exposes the shipwreck, so we quickly made our way down to see it before the sand and ocean covered it up again (which happened a few days later).
The ship was the SS Monte Carlo. It was a gambling and prostitution ship that operated a few miles away from Coronado; or in other words, it operated in international waters so the U.S. government couldn't police it. Lol! One day a really bad storm pushed it to shore and beached/wrecked the ship. No one wanted to claim the ship because gambling, alcohol, and prostitution were illegal in California at the time. And legend has it that there is still quite a bit of gold buried somewhere with the ship. Wouldn't that be nice to find?! To find out more about the SS Monte Carlo, click

| The tide is high in this picture, so a little more of the ship is exposed during low tide, but there she is... the "Sin Ship." |
| So, funny story. While we were standing here, looking at the wreckage, Mitchell decides he wants to go take a closer look. |
| So, off he went and took a few steps away from us before we could tell him not too. |
| But he was in for quite a shocker. Because the waves had washed away the sand right in front of the ship, the beach went from a gradual decline to all of a sudden a two foot drop. The poor guy got to fully feel the cold Pacific Ocean, in DECEMBER! Brrr! |
| Oh, his look of horror! Haha! It all happened so fast, we barely knew he had taken a few steps from us before Chris noticed it in the camera as he took pictures. Lol! Of course, lucky for us then, that we caught the whole thing on film:) |
