Papaw's In Da House! - Part 2

I didn't want to skimp on any of the pictures from our fun visit with Papaw, so I decided to divide up his visit into two posts (Wow!  Isn't he fancy?!  Hahaha!).  So, here is part two of his stay with us.  We made so many great memories with him and I didn't want to miss documenting a single thing!

When we were in Seattle, we decided to pop on over to the Museum of Flight, which is one of the largest and most extensive flight museums in the U.S.  These two were soooo in their element!  They very much enjoyed discussing the ins and outs about each rocket, spaceship, airplane, etc.  We really were missing Opa this trip though... a few different times they both mentioned how much Opa would really enjoy this museum.  Maybe next time:)

I thought this was just too funny... they had some of the older computer stations from NASA on display and I thought it was so funny to see a rotary dial.  I mean, it was totally fitting for the time period this computer station was used, but still so weird to see it now compared to today's technology.  We really have come a long way.

Mitchell made a friend while looking at um... an engine?  Man, there were so many things we saw and so much information we learned, that I may have forgotten exactly what info went to what dodad.  Lol!  I do believe these were parts pulled out of the ocean from some spacecraft after its reentry to Earth, and they were crushed/smushed because of the pressure under water.  Oh wait, maybe these were the parts that broke away from spacecraft after it helped boost it into space?  Haha, maybe I should review all this with Chris before I post it on the blog.  Lol!

A capsule from the Apollo missions.  And MAYBE the blue sign at the bottom of this picture helped me figure this one out, or maybe I'm just that smart.  Haha, guess we'll never know:)

The boys coming off of an older passenger airliner.  Man, it is crazy how big the seats on a plane used to be and how much legroom they used to have!  Basically, our First Class of today was like Coach of yesteryear.  It must have been nice to fly like that!

Mitchell said he could pilot this plane, no problem!

So many planes, so little time.

Hahaha!  This is Duncan in his super chillax mode with his foot up on his tray, and Mitchell with his super sassy-angry face because I made him stop and take another picture.  Lol!

There they go again.  Nerd alert!  Kidding:)  I love seeing them together, discussing topics they find interesting, enjoying themselves very much:)

He made a very good test pilot.

Hey Maverick, where's Goose?!

Duncan also made sure to get in on the airplane action.

The World War II gallery.

After our busy day in Seattle, the next day called for some rest and relaxation... and of course, some T.V. watching.

It wouldn't be a proper visit with Papaw if a day of shooting wasn't involved.

In the last week of Papaw's visit we finally got some rain, which helped clear some of the smoke and reveal some of those beautiful Pacific Northwest views.  Here are Chris and Papaw checking out the beach at a local park.

Of course, the boys really didn't care that much about the scenery and were more interested in the slide that the park offered.  Lol!

We were trying really hard to get a good picture of Duncan to send to some family, but he was on the move constantly so it was hard to get a decent picture.  Most of our pictures looked like this one, with him running away and us having to chase him down.

Or... pictures like this.  Which is just a giant blur of him running by us.  Lol!

We finally sat him down on a tree stump and he stayed still for 5 seconds; long enough for us to snap this picture anyway, and then he was off and running again.  Oh, the joys of working with an under two year old model.  Haha!  But, he's a cutie so I guess we'll give him a pass:)

He was a little more cooperative at the beach.  Of course, it was harder for him to run away here:)

Big brother Mitchell can show Duncan how posing is done... he's starting to become a pro at it.  Well, he cooperates until he doesn't.  Haha!

Papaw was nice enough to help Duncan navigate the beach.

Colin wasn't the biggest fan of the wind (neither was my hair, Lol!), but I think he enjoyed his beach outing:)

The view of the Olympic Mountains was better than this picture let on; it really was a gorgeous, typical overcast day in the Pacific Northwest.  We all enjoyed our visit at the Hood Canal.

And here is one of our several attempts to get a family photo (this was the best one).  Hahaha!  Duncan was majorly whining and squirming, Mitchell was mad that we made him stop playing to take the photo, it was windy so I was trying hard to block Colin from the wind and keep the hair out of my face, and Chris was doing everything he could to lock Duncan down... but, at least we are all looking forward.  Hahaha!

Here is another close-up of this cutie, giving you a half smile (and losing his sweet, baby hair *tear*).

We decided to give ourselves a much deserved break and order in dinner.  Haha, and don't worry, Papaw isn't about to lose his American ways, even when eating sushi... forget chopsticks, it's a fork all the way!  Lol!

Speaking of food, here are just some of the amazing dishes we scarfed down: homemade schnitzel and spaetzle with a delicious mushroom/paprika sauce, sushi, seafood (FRESH salmon, prawns, and halibut), perfectly grilled steaks by Mr. Chris Swisher, homemade goulash over spaetzle, and some of our favorite fish and "chips" from Ivars.  We also made Indian food (Papaw's first time trying it; I believe he liked it), had goodies from our favorite bakery and Piroshky Piroshky at Pike Place Market, and enjoyed the famous hotdogs from Costco.  Lol!

Here is Papaw enjoying the view as he ate his seafood.  He was such a good sport to let me take so many pictures of him eating.  Lol!

Duncan was more interested in the flagpole than the view.  Haha!

Once again, Mitchell showing Duncan just how modeling is done:)

It's kinda of hard to see in this picture because it was getting pretty dark outside (and I took this picture through our bedroom window), but we got some visitors in our backyard a couple nights in a row before Papaw had to leave.  Even the wildlife were saying their goodbyes to him:)

Getting some last minute snuggles in his last night with us.  Haha, and getting some great side-eye from Colin who was intensely checking him out.  Lol!

The other boys started to get jealous and decided Colin couldn't have all the fun by himself.  Haha, I feel like this picture describes the boys perfectly:  Colin staring into the abyss because he has no idea what is going on, Mitchell posing and fighting for a coveted spot on Papaw's lap, and Duncan just sipping away on his bottle (Seriously, he is glued to that thing... if anyone has pointers on how to wean an almost toddler off a bottle, please do share), and Papaw trying to juggle all three boys who wanted to be near/on him at all times:)  Thank you for the great visit Papaw!!  Come back and see us anytime!

Since Chris works on aircraft carriers now, I thought it was only fitting to show this plane from World War II at the Museum of Flight.  Its wings were designed to fold up, to make room for it to fit on aircraft carriers.  I just thought that was so crazy.  Oh my, how far we have come in flight technology since then:)

It has taken a while for Duncan to get used to wearing shoes.  He usually takes them off the first chance he gets, or whines and cries and refuses to walk in them.  But, I think he figured out that there was no way we were going to let him go barefoot in the park.  He started out slow and unsure, but it wasn't long before he was taking off... then it was hard for us to keep up with him.

The boys probably thought the playground was more fun than any of the pretty scenery at the park.  Lol!  Here you get to see Duncan's first trip down a slide!  And his evolution from being scared of it to loving it.  Haha, and also the evolution of Mitchell wanting the attention to kicking Duncan to eventually accepting Duncan into the "sliding family."  Lol!
